Hi Everyone.
You’ll find that my writing here kind of moves forward, then loops back around. A lot of times I let spirit flow through me, not forcing the writing but letting it come. I trust that what needs to be heard will be what I end up writing.
The Little Book of Living and The Little Book of Dying will be done, probably sooner than later. My sticking place right now is book design and for every direction I turn with questions about how to do this, I get ten different answers. This, I think, reflects the time of change that books and reading and book creation are in. Whenever an old system is being disrupted there’s chaos as new ways are tested. The last book I wrote I created using software called Booksmart, or the Blurb platform, which was fine, but this time I think I need even less of that. I don’t really need these books to grab your attention or seduce you. I want these books to help you navigate the treacherous waters of life. I want to wallpaper the planet with these books (though she’s awfully pretty all on her own).
The other day after church, during which I talked about Hilaree Nelson and her life of passionate exploration, a friend came up to me and reminded me of that famous Thoreau quote about the masses of men living lives of quiet desperation. Ugh I cannot get those words out of my head. Just that whole idea of getting through life, enduring it, as opposed to living it, fully.
The masses of men.
Unfortunately my own amateur sleuthing has supported this hypothesis, that most people are just moving through the whole thing half awake, on auto-pilot, doing all the same things over and over, eating all the same things, going all the same places, addicted to coffee and booze and social media as means to try to remove one’s self from … life.
Eventually there’s a wake-up call (accident, death, disease) and that’s when a person usually starts negotiating with god … I’ll stop eating so much red meat! I’ll exercise more! I’ll be nicer to my parents! I’ll adopt a stray dog! The usual … we taste the truth of our mortality and want to buy more time with good behavior.
So yes, OK, the books. If anyone has a good book designer in their Rolodex, drop me a line, please. If you’ve ever seen how I live you know my aesthetic is minimalism grande … less is a lot more … if someone else needs it or wants it, they can have it.
The point of the books is to help you get to the place where you are fully humming with life, not just moving through it, trying to get from one end of a day to the other. Tapped into the Goo of Truth that you were born for greatness. And by that I don’t mean all the GOAT, Tom Brady, Serena Williams stuff. Obviously that kind of person is terrific and their achievements are interesting to witness. By great I mean humming with life, connected with your purpose(s), improving the conditions of the world by being who you came here to be. Content, satisfied, flexible, breathing deep without trying too hard. Living true to yourself and the world. All of that potential came into the world embedded inside you. Don’t ask me why, but the world, over time, made it harder and harder for you to access your Truth.
So take my hand and I’m going to help you find your way home, we’re going to do this together. And pack light because you already have everything you need, right down deep inside.
Infinite blessings of love and courage, xomo
You can pre-order the Little Books right here. Thank you!
It might be nice to have some space / pages throughout the book to write notes as we reflect on what we read.
