The SAM Project
I've launched a new publication for SAM.
As many of you know, over the last year and a half a group of amazing humans and I have been building SAM — a project devoted to developing new delivery systems for spiritual care — for our senior population, specifically.
The purpose of SAM is to use the modern technology tools we have to solve the crisis humans face of aging without access to spiritual companionship. We are using technology to create a hybrid platform to build healthier relationships, and to ensure that every person can live a meaningful life, until their last breath. It’s pretty simple.
I’ve created a separate Substack for this work so it can have its own dedicated space.
My personal newsletter will continue as it always has. The SAM publication will focus specifically on aging, companionship, spiritual care, community, and the larger vision behind the project.
We have other ideas brewing: connecting high school students with seniors to cross-pollinate stories, youthful energy, and elder wisdom, and building new models of organizations devoted to spiritual exploration in community. As young Sam, the tech whiz behind the project said recently, “Mom, everyone in my generation needs spiritual care, too.” The world might go bonkers right before our eyes, but humans will never stop seeking meaning, connection, belonging and purpose.
We are just getting warmed up.
We care deeply about spiritual accompaniment, presence, exploration, existential care and literacy, and reverence for the beauty that lives in our lives and world. I am pouring my whole heart into this project, but there is no way we would be where we are today if not for the many, many generous and loving people who have helped (and continue to help) along the way.
If you’d like to follow The SAM Project as it evolves, you can subscribe right here!
The two mailing lists are separate, so subscribing to one does not automatically subscribe you to the other.
To note: the SAM Substack is free, and I have turned off subscription pricing for this one, too.
Thank you for reading what I write, and for being part of this community. We’ve got this. We are going to make better days, and we’re going to do it together.
