Dearests.
Neither here nor there, but worth your time …
Last night I had an old-fashioned, bona fide uplifting encounter with an online retailer. I had a genuine conversation in which an actual human in Nebraska (US!) thanked me for my purchase and, in the course of our chat, wished me well on my upcoming trip across the country.
The stuff they do is so lovely, finding and creating nice things and selling them at reasonable prices: have a looksee yourself: Home & Closet Vintage.
I bought the incredibly beautiful, very sturdy in that god this is well-made way, Wyeth Trail Bench. I’m a major sucker for anything in Pendleton fabric.
Actual humans, kind ones! Nice stuff, unique and (some) handmade with love in Nebraska!
I realized after I sent a newsletter out the other day that you can’t link an email address AND whatever email is automatically generated from Substack does not actually go to me … for some reason.
The Death + Dying open conversation in Manchester, Vt at the end of September is pretty much full up already, but if you’re interested in attending, email me: melissa519@me.com.
Finally, this film: Past Lives is beautiful and tender and visually gorgeous. It’s a quiet film that moves at a gentle pace. There are many moments in it when the silence is everything, which feels like a significant accomplishment in filmmaking.
I would imagine that most of us have felt this thing called in-yun, the Buddhist concept of the layers and lives of souls, that curious feeling of familiarity one feels with a particular person. It doesn’t make sense, is what the characters say.
I know the feeling. I hope you do, too. I hope you’ve been there and felt that and wondered what it was and where it came from.
The soundtrack is wonderful, too.
Take good care of each other today,
xomo
I truly loved that movie too!
Yes, we will take good care of each other. We are in Earth School to give of ourselves to our higher calling. The film sounds interesting. I will try to see if I can get it. Bien Viaje.
